In\u00a0the spring, the new growth is a brilliant yellow which lasts for about 6 weeks\u00a0and then fades to the normal green color of a Lodgepole Pine. Every spring this\u00a0tree puts on a brilliant show. Taylor’s Sunburst Pine likes to be planted in full sun.<\/p>\n

It is a small pine growing only to a top height of 15′ and a width of 10′.\u00a0This small pine is great for a foundation planting with a tall wall, or plant as\u00a0a specimen. They are a moderate grower so they won’t grow too fast. Taylor’s Sunburst Pine also attracts bees and is deer resistant.<\/p>\n

Although they are a slow grower, and only grow 12 inches or less per year, you will want to plant them in an area where they can spread out over the years. They can grow out to spread 10 feet wide. They also grow up to about 15 feet high. Because they do not grow to a great height they are a suitable tree to grow under power lines, which allow you to use them for privacy along your property line as well as help to protect against wind shears. Planting them near your home can also help to reduce heating bills due to the protection from the elements.<\/p>\n

In spring, the tree will grow a mass of small red pine cones. These cones are very showy against the yellow and dark green needles. This is another reason these trees are a great choice for your yard. The bark on these trees is also a deep red color with a rough texture adding more interest to the landscape.<\/p>\n

Taylor\u2019s Sunburst Lodgepole pines are also a long living tree. They can live up to 60 years with little care. You will only need to cut away any limbs that die back, but this does not happen often with this hardy tree. You can also trim back the new growth in spring if you want to deter the tree from growing bigger.<\/p>\n

Plant these pines in soil that drains well as they do not thrive in standing water. Though they are not particular to where they are planted, they do best in full sun. They are also highly tolerant of pollution, and are a top pick for inner city landscaping for this reason.
