Of course, it goes without saying that you want to ensure that your trees stay in tip-top condition, and in order to do that, you need to make sure you know when to water your trees.<\/p>\n

How Often Should You Water Your Trees?<\/h2>\n

Like all other living things, trees need water to survive. However, while that might sound pretty simple, it\u2019s actually a bit harder than it appears. Why? Because there are several factors that impact the amount of water that trees need to thrive. These factors include the age, size, type, and location of a tree. So, how do you figure out how much water your trees need to remain properly hydrated? When to Water Trees<\/h3>\n

The best time to water a tree is early in the morning, either just before or just after dawn, or in the evening, right around dusk. Why? Because during the height of the day when the sun is high in the sky \u2013 especially in the heat of the summer \u2013 a significant amount of water applied to a tree will evaporate. By watering early in the morning or late in the evening, when the sun and heat are low, the water won\u2019t absorb as quickly and the tree roots will absorb more of that hydration. With that said, however, there isn\u2019t a specific schedule to follow for watering a tree. It is important to note, though, that newly planted trees will need more water than trees that are well-established.<\/p>\n

So, how can you determine when your trees need to be watered? By checking the soil. The ground should be moist, but it shouldn\u2019t be soggy. If the ground is super-dry and rain isn\u2019t in the forecast, you\u2019re going to want to water your trees.<\/p>\n

How Much to Water<\/h3>\n

The amount of water a tree requires depends on the size, species, environment, and age of the tree. With that said, however, as a general rule of thumb, established trees should receive 10 gallons of water for every inch of the tree\u2019s diameter. Therefore, a tree with a 5-inch diameter should receive 50 gallons of water.<\/p>\n

Another important tip to ensure that a tree is effectively watered, the deeper, the better. In other words, try to get the water as deep down into the soil around the base of the tree as you possibly can. Doing so will allow the roots to really absorb the water. Drip irrigation is the preferred method of irrigation, as it not only allows for deeper soil penetration but also leads to less evaporation than watering with a sprinkler.<\/p>\n

Consistency<\/h3>\n

Watering on a consistent basis is also important. Letting the soil get totally dry or allowing it to remain soggy will cause the tree distress. In turn, this will make it more susceptible to disease and pest infestation.<\/p>\n
