It&#8217;s important to have a good understanding of diseases before you can efficiently send them packing\u2014and get back to the joy of gardening.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Notorious plant diseases<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Leaf spots are one of the most common symptoms of disease, whether caused by bacteria, fungi, or viruses. Other symptoms of disease include sudden:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>wilting<\/li>\n<li>ragged or curling leaves<\/li>\n<li>deformed flowers or fruit<\/li>\n<li>generally discolored or mottled foliage<\/li>\n<li>poor growth<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Bacterial spot<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Most common in damp, humid weather, the disease can be controlled by avoiding working among wet plants. Bacterial spot symptoms vary but generally they discolor a leaf by producing a dark brown lesion that is surrounded by a yellow halo.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>BLACK SPOT<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Roses, especially hybrid tea roses, are highly susceptible to this infectious fungal disease. Black spots, as the name implies, will appear on the leaves, followed by a yellowing surrounding the spots.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>POWDERY MILDEW<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Numerous strains of fungi are commonly referred to as Powdery Mildew. Since this disease removes essential nutrients from the plant, leaves may become yellow, stunted or drop off prematurely.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Mosaic virus<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Peonies and other plants affected by this or other viruses should be destroyed to prevent spread of the incurable disease. Symptoms include yellow or green mottled patterns on the infected leaves.
