When it comes to planting a garden, the most important factor to consider is the location. Whether you’re planting a flower garden full of perennials or annuals, or you want to plant a garden full of vegetables that you can harvest, the location you choose is crucial. It makes all the difference in the world to the success of your plants.
Not sure how to choose a location for your garden? Here are some tips to help you pick the proper planting area.
How to Select Proper Planting Area for a Successful Garden at Your Home?
Before you even start to work the land, here are some factors to keep in mind when choosing a spot for your planting area garden.
Know Your Plants
Figure out what type of plants you are going to be growing and learn about their needs. Some plants require full sun and well drained soil in order to thrive, while others do better in partial sun and prefer damp soil. By knowing what types of plants you are going to be putting in your garden and finding out their needs, you will have a much easier time selecting the best spot to put your garden.
Check Out the Sun
Find a spot that offers the amount of sun your plants require. If they need full sun, choose a location that offers unobstructed sun for at least 6 to 8 hours. If they would rather have partial shade, a spot that only gets sun in the morning or afternoon and is shady the rest of the day is a good choice.
Consider the Soil
Soil needs vary for different plants. For instance, veggies prefer loose, rich, soil that drains well, while some species of flowers, such as phlox and bee balm, would rather have moist, compacted soil. Make sure you choose a spot that can meet the soil requirements of your plant choices.
